Performing at Our Best
Hunter School of the Performing Arts offers a dynamic learning environment in which students are provided with a comprehensive school curriculum along with opportunities in specialist performing arts programs in Music, Drama and Dance.
We are a Kindergarten to Year 12 school in which all students gain entry through an audition process - the only Department of Education and Training (DET - Government) school of its kind in New South Wales.
Our school has a proud record of outstanding academic achievements in the Higher School Certificate, School Certificate and statewide numeracy and literacy skills tests, as well as Primary Basic Skills Tests.
In the past five years our Higher School Certificate results have consistently ranked in the top four DET schools in the Hunter and Central Coast Regions.
Students' works are regularly featured at the "Art Express Exhibition", "Call Back" and "On Stage", which showcase the highest level of achievement in the creative and performing arts courses of the Higher School Certificate.
We are proud to maintain a safe, secure and disciplined learning environment with a focus on promoting teamwork.
The school has strong programs in student welfare, capacity building and leadership, including the Student Executive, Student Representative Council and Peer Support Groups.
Our school boasts innovative programs in the performing arts, enhanced by strong community partnerships with the Civic Theatre and local theatre groups including The Young Peoples' Theatre.
A modern, "state of the art", fully equipped theatre with a dedicated recording studio including the latest digital technology affords students the opportunity to perform and receive vocational training in a range of performing arts related skills.
We also have a strong program with professionals providing individualised tutoring to enhance and improve upon classroom work.
Applications for audition to our school are available in April each year with auditions taking place in July for the following year's intake.
